Abstract

This project aims to technically evaluate the weed control methods used in passion fruit cultivation. The research was carried out in a cultivation area in the province of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. Different control methods were evaluated, including: mechanical, chemical and manual. The associated costs were analyzed and the effects of each method on the yield of passion fruit production and the quality of the fruits were compared. The pests and diseases present in the area were also identified. In terms of effectiveness, it was found that mechanical and chemical control methods were the most effective in reducing the presence of weeds in the crop. Mechanical control, carried out through the use of tools such as mowers and mowers, allowed efficient physical removal of the weeds. On the other hand, chemical control, applying selective herbicides with the use of a weed selector, also proved to be highly effective in controlling weeds. Regarding the impact on passion fruit production, it was observed that the different control methods did not affect the vegetative development, flowering or fruiting of the plants, which suggests that adequate management of weeds can contribute to obtaining better fruits. quality. With the results, farmers are provided with information on effective and profitable weed control methods. This contributes to the sustainable development of this important agricultural activity in the country.
