The visual arts are artistic representations through which people are able to graphically recreate their ideas, perceptions, emotions and feelings through the use of various elements and techniques. In this sense, it not only constitutes a useful tool for expression, but also for several decades its contribution has been explored in the educational field, as a mechanism to promote comprehensive development. Consequently, it is possible to find postulates that highlight the value of including art as the basis of the didactic strategies used in the training processes. Therefore, with this scientific article we sought to collect and contrast information from various previous studies in which the contribution of the visual arts in integral development has been discussed, for which a systematic review of the literature was carried out with the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria that allowed the extraction of eight scientific articles of greatest relevance, obtained through the search on different platforms such as Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar. The results reflected that the visual arts have gained greater importance in the educational context over the years, since it has been an important contribution for teaching staff in the teaching processes, since it allows them to take advantage of this didactic tool to encourage that students can express themselves critically and reflectively through their visual representations.
