Abstract

The study addresses the problem of work stress in the employees of Hospital Basic Guaranda, an essential institution with limited resources and high demand for services. The main objective was to identify the stressors affecting employees and evaluate their impact on well-being and work performance. A quantitative methodology with field design was employed, using adapted questionnaires (Perceived Stress Scale and Maslach Burnoutory Inventory) applied to a stratified random sample of 131 employees. The data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The results revealed a high prevalence of emotional exhaustion, significantly correlated with depersonalization and job strain, while personal achievement showed a negative correlation with job stress. In addition, understaffing in the administrative area was identified as contributing to increased job stress in this group. It is concluded that it is necessary to implement organizational strategies to mitigate stress, such as psychological support programs and improvements in internal communication, as well as to strengthen the administrative team to reduce work overload and improve the quality of service.
