Abstract

The study addresses the problem of dependence on monocultures in the Santa Fe parish, which has generated high rates of chronic poverty. The objective is to investigate the viability of beekeeping as an economic alternative to diversify agricultural production and improve the economic conditions of local farmers. The methodology used is applied, with a quantitative approach and a descriptive and correlational design. Surveys were conducted with 167 farmers and complemented with documentary analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The results show that, although 63.10% of the farmers are not familiar with beekeeping and 88.69% have not received training, there is a significant willingness (97.6%) to invest in this activity with adequate support. Beekeeping presents itself as a promising alternative for agricultural diversification, but requires educational interventions and financial support to be effectively adopted. It concludes that beekeeping has potential to improve the local economy and more studies are needed to assess its long-term impact.
