Abstract

Forage peanut (Arachis pintoi) and buttercup (Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsl.) A. Gray) are important plant species in the Ecuadorian Amazon due to their nutritional properties and their ability to improve soil quality. The objective of the study is to evaluate the morphometric characteristics and bromatological parameters of forage peanut and buttercup, determining their potential as food resources for livestock and their contribution to agricultural sustainability in the Amazon region. The research was carried out at the CEIPA Experimental Center in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Bromatological analyses were carried out to measure the levels of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and other essential nutrients. Morphometric analyses were also carried out to evaluate plant height, leaf length and width, and stem diameter. Recognized analytical techniques were used to ensure the accuracy of the data obtained. The results indicate that forage peanut is high in protein and fiber, while buttercup is rich in minerals. These characteristics make both species viable options for animal feed. In addition, their cultivation contributes to the improvement of soil quality and the sustainability of agricultural practices in the región. The study concludes that forage peanut and buttercup have great potential as sustainable food resources in the Ecuadorian Amazon. It is recommended to encourage their use in animal feed and to promote future research to evaluate their large-scale production and their role in ecological restoration and food security.
