Role Of The Nurse In Intensive Care From A Humanized Approach

Abstract

The scientific article explores the role of nursing in intensive care units (ICUs) from a humanization-focused perspective, investigating how empathetic and personalized care influences the quality of care offered in these environments. Humanization in healthcare emphasizes the recognition of patients as individuals, valuing their dignity and addressing their emotional needs, in addition to their clinical conditions. A comprehensive literature review was conducted along with a qualitative analysis of ICU practice to identify strategies that promote a humanized approach. Elements such as effective communication with patients and their families, active participation of patients in decision-making, and attention to their emotional and psychological needs were analyzed. The findings show that nurses play an essential role in implementing humanized care through empathy, individualized care, and clear communication. This approach not only improves the experience of the patient and their families, but also results in better clinical outcomes and greater patient satisfaction. The study highlights the importance of incorporating humanizing principles into the training and professional practice of ICU nursing. The findings offer recommendations to strengthen training in communication and empathy skills, as well as to promote a care environment that respects and comprehensively supports critically ill patients.
