The objective of this narrative review was to analyze the role of nursing staff in the implementation of resuscitation and emergency protocols in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU). It assessed how continuous training, institutional support, team collaboration, technology, and staff well-being influence the effectiveness of care in critical situations. Specific inclusion and exclusion criteria were established, and an exhaustive search was conducted in databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus, using relevant combinations of keywords and MeSH terms. Studies published in the last ten years in English and Spanish were selected.
The findings highlight that staff training and adequate institutional support are essential for the effective application of emergency protocols. Teamwork and effective communication are crucial for managing high-pressure situations efficiently and preventing errors. Moreover, the importance of managing technological dependence to avoid care depersonalization is emphasized. The review also stresses the need to support the emotional and physical well-being of staff to prevent burnout and ensure quality care.
In conclusion, optimizing protocols in PICU requires an integrated approach that combines advanced education, robust support, effective technology management, and attention to staff well-being.
