This scientific article was developed with the objective of determining the effectiveness of the nursing professional's performance in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, by searching scientific articles published online from 2015 in indexed journals or university graduate studies, using Boléan operators such as; "AND, OR and NOT" and specific words related to the topic such as Diabetic Epidemiology, Diabetic Ketoacidosis and Care of the patient with Diabetic Ketoacidosis, selecting 21 investigations for considering that they were more related to the topic. With the analysis of the search results, it was established that Diabetes Mellitus is a disease caused by the lack of control of blood glucose levels due to the total lack or low production of insulin by the pancreas, which when they are very high produces a complication called Diabetic Ketoacidosis that puts the patient's life at risk. Similarly, age, lack of control of glucose levels due to non-compliance with treatment, obesity, overweight, inadequate diet, sedentary lifestyle and low educational level of the parents were identified as risk factors for DKA. Regarding care in the emergency department, it was learned that once the assessment and diagnosis had been made, the nursing staff proceeded to apply insulin therapy and hydration to avoid complications. It was concluded that nursing care in the emergency services is carried out in a personalized manner following the NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomies for the nursing care process.
