Abstract

Parent-child contact problems (PCCP) following separation or divorce are the subject of intense debate in academia and the media. This debate centers on how to identify, assess, and respond to children who show resistance or rejection toward a parent. A central issue in this debate is the validity and extent of parental alienation (PA), with some professionals viewing it as a real phenomenon and others as a legal strategy to counter accusations such as domestic violence and child maltreatment. This study explored prevailing attitudes by interviewing 1049 interdisciplinary family law practitioners who directly face these issues in their practice. Despite the lack of specific formal training on these issues, practitioners demonstrated a solid understanding of PCCPs.
