Abstract

Family violence is a serious violation of human rights that affects individuals of all ages and genders. In Ecuador, this phenomenon has been recognized as a priority problem, reflected in legislation and public policies designed to prevent and eradicate family violence. This article reviews the theoretical and conceptual framework, the legal and regulatory framework in Ecuador, the protection and support mechanisms for victims, and provides a detailed analysis of relevant statistics and case studies. Defines family violence and highlights its relationship with human rights. Family violence includes physical, psychological, sexual and economic abuse, and is internationally recognized as a violation of fundamental human rights, as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international instruments such as CEDAW and the Convention of Belém do For. Examines the legal and regulatory framework in Ecuador, highlighting the 2008 Constitution and the Comprehensive Organic Law to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women of 2018. These laws provide a robust framework for the protection of victims and the punishment of aggressors, establishing specific and coordinated measures to prevent and eradicate family violence. Analyzes protection and support mechanisms for victims, including the role of government institutions, shelters and care centers, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
