Academic writing plays an essential role in the processes of generation, dissemination and distribution of knowledge achieved through research carried out in different disciplinary areas, which in turn constitutes the basis of undergraduate and graduate training. postgraduate. However, due to its complexity, it is common for university students to present shortcomings in this area, which in turn contributes to deficiencies when substantiating their postulates and approaches, formulating ideas of academic rigor, preparing argumentative or discursive texts, among others. procedures involved in writing a text of different categories. The objective of this article was to analyze the importance of academic writing in third and fourth level training processes, in which case a qualitative approach methodology was applied focused on the systematic review of literature, with which we sought to compile, analyze and contrast relevant information in which aspects related to the main problems, challenges, recommendations or implications associated with this dimension have been addressed. In this case, different search platforms were selected and exclusion criteria were applied to reduce the number of documents and select the most notable ones, and the main contributions found were synthesized. It is concluded that academic writing should be worked on as a fundamental competence in the training of professionals, since it fulfills an epistemic function and contributes to improving the quality of writing texts.
